How To Make Windows 7 Run Faster

Its quite evident that the persons who've tried Vista and were disappointed by its shortcomings, and Microsoft answered their prayers with Windows 7. It is basically a better Vista; faster, snappier, and more productive, should I say. But a lot of consumers are still using older Intel Dual Core machines (or even P4's) with only 1GB of RAM and just an on-board graphics processor, so they need to squeeze Windows 7 for performance rather than just all eye-candy.

This is a helpful post for everyone who's sporting Windows 7 on their machines but wants to get more mojo from their grumpy hardware. There are other "ultimate guides" out there that also tackle the same topic, but this guide is basically to pimp up and condition your Windows 7 box for optimum performance. It is a short guide, but I'm tackling only the essentials - if you're a more of a tweaky guy, you can check out the link below the post for the ultimate guide.

So here are my tips on how to make Windows 7 run faster:

1. Turn off the snazzy Windows Aero Themes - Aero Themes consume a lot of RAM and processor power, so turning them off and using a standard or basic theme will definitely make your Windows 7 PC run faster, especially if you don't have a good graphics card.

• Right Click on your Desktop and select " Personalize " click the Window Color Tab.


• Uncheck the Box saying " Enable Transparency " and then click on " Open classic appearance properties for more color options".


• Then a window will open up. Apply a Standard or Basic theme from it. The Standard Windows 7 theme is more preferred.

2. Turn off other Windows Visual Effects sh!t - this will make your interactions with the OS faster

• For this right click on " Computer" and select "Properties" from the right click menu.


• Click on " Advanced System Settings " from the left pane to open up the " System Properties " window.


• Select the "Advanced" tab from it. Then Under " Performance " click " Settings ". Choose " Custom: " Options From it.


• Now untick all the options and select only the last four options (actually three only needed; you can untick the second option from the last four). See the screen shot if you have any doubt.


• Now just logoff your system and turn logon

3. Remove the Aero Sidebar / Gadgets thingy - lets remove more unnecessary elements on your desktop, shall we? Because I personally thing the sidebar is not very productive, and it uses system resources even when its idle.

• Right click on the sidebar and select " Properties ".


• On the properties windows untick the check box showing " Start sidebar when Windows Starts "


• From now on windows sidebar won't start when windows 7 start up

4. Install these very nice free software to keep your Windows 7 in tip-top shape - this is where maintenance will really speed up your greasy, er, p0rn hub? Run them at least once a week and your computer will surely be sprinting like Lightning McQueen
